Sunday Shirredness!

Every weekend seems to just fly by. Saturday and Sunday just never seem to last long enough. I had a semi eventful weekend, mostly filled with sewing! How was yours? Was it filled with anything fun, or just relaxing?

I'm working on getting things ready for my Etsy shop, i'm a little further behind than I want to be. Getting this store ready is a little bit harder than I thought it was going to be :(
So, back to this this weekends sewing... I have a couple tutorials ready for you this week! Exciting, I know! Hehe. While I was working on those tutorials, I took a break to look around a little bit in the blog world, and I found this great tutorial from Sugar Bee Crafts for this cute Shirred Pocket Skirt that I just had to try! I have never sewn with elastic thread before, so I figured now was the perfect time! I however made it a little smaller for my daughter, and I haven't tried to put a pocket on it. You should go check this tutorial out, she gives some great tips for shirring! (Also she has the same name as me, which I think is pretty cool!)

Here's a picture of my first shirred skirt!

It was a lot easier, and took a lot less time than I thought it would!

Have a good rest of what's left of your weekend, and have a wonderful Monday!

Finally Friday

Don't you just love getting things in the mail? I know I do, especially just in time for the weekend :) I checked my mail today to find this nice surprise:

My package from Marmalade Fabrics! Remember the Kona solids I ordered last week, for the Bottled Rainbows quilt.
I'm so excited to get started on it! So be prepared for the Bottled Rainbows quilt posts coming next week. I'm working on a couple of tutorials that should be ready for next week, can't wait to see what you think!

Now that you know My weekend plans, hope you all have a fun filled weekend too!

Scissors!

So i am patiently awaiting the arrival of my bundle of Kona fabrics :) I can't wait to get started on my new adventure into quilting! As I am waiting to get started on my first quilting square I was thinking that my scissors needed a little updating, so as I was doing this I wrote up a quick little tutorial for you guys!

*Before I share that with you guys though, I want to tell you something awesome that happened to me today! My husband called me on Skype this morning at 2am! I was so excited that I couldn't go back to sleep, hehe!*

Okay, anyways back to what you guys came here for, the tutorial!

First I started with a pair of plain old scissors;
I also used a piece of scrap booking paper
                clear tacky glue
                hole punch
and some modge podge (not pictured)

I then traced the scissor blades on the back of the scrapbook paper

I cut the pieces out and laid them on the scissors to make sure they fit. I took my fingernail and rubbed it on the screw on the blades to mark where it it. I took the hole punch and punched a hole to make a place for the screw. I glued the pieces to the blades with the tacky glue and painted modge podge over the top to make the paper stay.

That's it! Now sit back and enjoy your cool new scissors!

Been a While

Ok, I know it has been a super long time since I have posted anything here. Long story short, Ricky (my husband)  was deployed last month, and I am still trying to get into a routine without him. I haven't even sewn anything since he left :(

Well today I took the plunge and ordered the Kona fat quarter bundle from here so I can start on this colorful new quilt called Bottled Rainbows from Rachel at Stiched in Color. I actually came across this a while ago, but have been putting it off because this will be my first quilt!
I decided today to get up and start sewing again, it is very much needed. I will keep you guys updated weekly on how my progress is going along with some tutorials on how I have learned to do things. Feel free to follow along with me, as she started back in March (I know, I know, I have put this off WAY to long) and is already finished with hers.

Wish me luck as I start on this colorful adventure! Hehe
